Thoughts on the DJI Action 4 for video and photography:

The DJI Action 4 is a great option for outdoor adventures, especially if water is involved. It is waterproof and quite rugged. It can do 4k 60 fps for a bit of slow motion. It has decent dynamic range for such a small sensor, and it does well enough with color grading. It isn’t as good as the new Action 5 Pro, but for its price and size, it is perfect for my outdoor use. The batteries go pretty quickly, but over the three days, I still had a little battery left. The biggest problem with the video was the audio. Wind was a pretty big issue even when it wasn’t very windy.

What I am not excited about is its photography abilities. The biggest issue is the focusing system. I decided to use it exclusively for this trip, and a lot of the photos I took were not usable because it was either too dark or because it missed focus. The minimum focus distance is too far away, and there is no way to make it focus on what you want. It just focuses on the middle distance and tapers off at the far distance. It doesn’t have a long exposure option, which would help for night sky or light painting, which would be nice. Overall, I wouldn’t use it for photography unless I didn’t have another option.
